President Yoweri Museveni has asked leaders from Kigezi sub region especially those whose districts neighbor Rwanda to warn their people against crossing to Kigali till her relations with Uganda are normalized.
This was revealed by Patrick Besigye Keihwa, the Kabale District chairperson at Rugarama Cathedral during the induction of the Kigezi Diocese sub dean.
“We, your leaders along with our, Members of Parliament met president Museveni and he told us to tell you not to dare crossing to Rwanda until the issues with Kigali are resolved. Many have been shot along the borders as you know” Keihwa was quoted.
Rwanda closed her borders with Uganda on the February 27th 2019 accusing Kampala of harboring her enemies, who were intending to destabilize Rwanda and bring to the end the current leadership.
Since then, borders have been closed, several Ugandans have been shot dead while trying to cross the porous border points, others have been detained under un clear circumstances.
However, efforts to bring order have witnessed several meetings between Uganda’s president Museveni and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame in Angola, others in Kampala and Kigali however no positive solution has been drawn.
On Friday last week, a quadripartite meeting occurred at the Katuna/ Gatuna border post at the no man’s land between Uganda and Rwanda presidents, along with their mediators including Angola’s João Lourenço and Democratic Republic of Congo’s Felix Tsishekedi.
The highly anticipated meeting yielded fruitless as Rwanda aligned fresh demands for Uganda before the borders could be opened again.
Kagame demanded that Rwanda National congress and RUD-Urunana members suspected to be living in Uganda be handed over to Kigali before the borders are reopened.
Other demands was Uganda to release more Rwandan prisoners which President Kagame said were still being held innocent, Uganda to investigate the Self-Worth Initiative, a human rights organization based in Kampala that has been critical of Rwandan regime over alleged human rights abuses in Kigali.
Rwanda also wants Uganda to revoke the passport of Charlotte Mukankusi, who is suspected to be the Commissioner in charge of Diplomacy in the Rwanda National Congress (RNC), a Rwandan apposition group that’s in exile, but which Rwanda also identifies as a rebel group.
Rt.Rev. Eng. George Bagamuhunda, the Bishop of Kigezi Diocese while inducting Rev. Manasseh Turyatunga as the new sub dean urged him to stick to the gospel and live it.
“Read the word of God and live it. Fear God, be humble and respect him. May he cleanse you and remain in his mercy” Bishop Bagamuhunda was quoted while praying for the new Diocesan sub dean.
