UMEME Officials in an engagement

KABALE– Electricity distributors UMEME, have insisted that the current power outages in Kabale District will have to wait until December 2024 to be corrected.

During a stakeholder engagement meeting held at Cephas Inn hotel in Makanga, Kabale municipality, UMEME officials revealed that the power outage in Kabale district will persist until December, despite planned demonstrations by residents.

Ian Namanya, the UMEME Western Regional Operations Manager, stated that the issue cannot be resolved until the completion of the Kabale substation in Karukara, Hamurwa town council, Rubanda district.

Namanya assured residents that once the substation is finished, the power outage problem will be permanently solved hence urging residents to remain patient until December this year.

Peter Kiyingi Kauju, the Senior Communications Officer at UMEME, who acknowledged the dependence of residents on electricity for their daily income assured the public that UMEME is committed to working with them to ensure satisfaction once the Kabale substation is completed.

The meeting comes ahead of the planned “March to UMEME office Kabale” demonstration on Friday, August 9th, 2024, where residents will express their dissatisfaction with electricity services.
