NEWS- Authorities in Mitooma District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault of a 43-year-old man by unidentified individuals. The incident occurred in Ryakahimbi village, Ward IV, Mitooma town council, Mitooma District, as confirmed by SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police.
The victim has been identified as Robert Sigirenda, a 42-year-old peasant and resident of Mitooma town cell, Ward II, Mitooma District, succumbed to the injuries sustained in the assault.
Its alleged that on 20th December 2023, Jackson Katubeho reported the incident to the police after receiving information from an individual identified only as Byamukama. Byamukama had informed Katubeho that Sigirenda had been severely assaulted and was lying along the road to Kashenshero in Ryakahimbi village.
Katubeho promptly responded to the scene, where he found the victim in critical condition. Despite being rushed to B&S Hospital, Sigirenda was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Further investigation revealed that the deceased had multiple bruises on various parts of his body. Notably, his neck, ribs, and limbs remained intact despite the severity of the assault.
Relatedly, the Police in Bushenyi District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a tragic incident in which a 33-year-old pedestrian lost his life after being struck by a speeding vehicle.
According to Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, the hit-and-run accident occurred on December 19, 2020, around 9:30 PM at Omukatagu along the Ishaka Kagamba road in Bushenyi District. The victim, identified as Ronald Atuhaire, a 33-year-old resident of Nyamirama cell, Kainamo Parish, Ibare Sub-county in Bushenyi District, was fatally hit by an unidentified vehicle.
Reportedly, on December 19, 2023, Atuhaire was walking from Ishaka towards his home when the incident took place at Omukatagu. A motor vehicle, whose details remain unknown, approached from the same direction, collided with him, and resulted in his immediate death.
Tumusiime mentioned that the deceased’s body has been transported to Kitagata Hospital mortuary in Sheema District for postmortem examinations. The police spokesperson also noted that inquiries into the matter are currently underway.
