NEWS- It was a shocking Tuesday morning for the residents of Kyondo 1 cell in Kyafoora parish, Rugarama North Sub County, Ntungamo district when they woke up to sad news of the destruction of the property belonging to an area resident Mwesigye Benard.
Mrs. Mwesigye Dinah, (Benard’s wife) confided to the press that on Tuesday night at around 9 PM, her son Demas encountered a masked man wielding a machete near their home. She added that the son hurried to the trading center to inform them (his parents), but they did not take the matter seriously at the time as it was still early.
The shocking discovery came on Wednesday morning when Demas went to milk the cows and found them chopped dead in the kraal. He raised an alarm, waking his parents and alerting the community, who quickly gathered at the scene.
Dinah further revealed that the assailant had not only killed the cows but also other pets such as ducks, hens, and cats, and had destroyed crops. She identified the suspect as Kamugisha Julius, her brother-in-law from Rwenshaka, Ruhinda Sub County in Rukungiri district.
She explained that he had been threatening to kill them, blaming them for sheltering his wife, whom he wanted to harm due to domestic violence.
The police were informed and visited the scene to gather forensic evidence to aid in their investigation.
Amanya Ivan Rwanyakibaale, the Rugarama North Sub County boss condemned mob justice and urged people to follow the law, noting that killing innocent animals is abnormal.
He encouraged Ugandans to seek help from various offices and authorities to resolve family issues.
