NEWS– The People’s Defense Forces-UPDF has confirmed that its commando units have attacked bases of the Lord’s Resistance Army-LRA leader Joseph Kony in the Central African Republic.

The attack, which was coordinated with South Sudan and Central Africa Republic armed Forces, occurred this morning. Officials say the attack was conducted on LRA’s three camps located east of Sam Ouanja.

The Army Deputy Spokesperson, Col. Deo Akiiki has confirmed the attack and said, all three camps and equipment have been destroyed in this attack.

“UPDF commandos in coordination with SSPDF and CAR security forces launched an operation against 3 camps of Joseph Kony in the Central African Republic, east of Sam Ouanja. All camps were destroyed and equipment captured. Akiiki said.

Akiiki has added that all the remnants of LRA still taking refuge in the Central Africa Republic or elsewhere on the continent of Africa will be hunted down, unless they hand themselves into authorities.

“Remnants of LRA still taking refuge in CAR or elsewhere on continent Africa will be hunted down. Unless they hand themselves in to authorities for proper processing and rehabilitation they will continue to be considered as criminals.”Akiiki stated.

The development comes after the international Criminals Court-ICC closed its investigations into alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in Northern Uganda.
