The Ugands Peoples Defence Forces (UPD 2nd Infantry Division is set to host the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) 5th Infantry Division football club on 31st May 2025 at Kyamate playground in Ntungamo Municipality in Ntugamo district.
According to the UPDF 2nd Division Public Relations Officer Major Kiconco Tabaro, this is the first ever military formations’ sports activity to be conducted between UPDF and RDF since commencement of Proximity Commanders engagements and is a historic event for the two Armies Formations and units.
The Rwanda Defence Forces Sports team will be received in Uganda by Maj Gen Paul Muhanguzi, UPDF 2nd Infantry Division Commander Maj Gen Paul Muhanguzi and other UPDF Senior Military officials for a friendly football match which will be witnessed by the strategic allies, the civilian population.
Major Kiconco Tabaro explained that the event is being organised in conjunction with the Local leadership and the two teams will conduct Civil Military Cooperation activities in Ntugamo Municipality .
These activities include, a route match in Ntungamo Municipality, tree planting and blood donation and the general public and all every well-wisher is urged to join and enjoy this wonderful football match which will be free of charge for all.
The match is a culmination of a number of engagements between UPDF 2nd Infantry Division and Rwanda Defence Forces 5th Infantry Division held on different dates in the Republic of Rwanda and Uganda.
The engagements are aimed at streamlining border security issues such as combating crime by promoting security measures, encouraging cooperation with border communities and other relevant stakeholders among others.
Major Kiconco Tabaro said that the two Armies have planned and held several activities which include regular proximity Commanders meetings, Coordinated Operations, Joint training and sports activities among others.
These arrangements have facilitated proximity cooperation especially on how best we can sufficiently handle cross border crime, security of the people and above all socio economic transformation of our communities.
This will significantly facilitate and strengthen cordial relations and bonding as military formations handling border security of the two countries and this is one of the strongest pillars for cordial relations between Commanders at Operational and Tactical levels.
Major Kiconco Tabaro explained that these Sports activities were recommended by the first, second third and Fourth military engagements in Rwanda and Uganda.

The UPDF is therefore welcoming the Rwanda Defence Forces Sports club to Kyamate playground in Ntugamo and encourage people to witness this historic event.
