NEWS- Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) have condemned the nasty and regrettable incident in which their soldier Private Amenoy Bonny of 01 commando battalion, of SFC shot dead three innocent civilians and injured two in Agago district.
According to Capt. Edrin Mawanda, Public Information Officer, 5 Infantry Division –UPDF, the gruesome incident happened on 20 October 24 at around midnight in Ngora East village, Ngora Parish , Paimol Sub county, Agago North county in Agago district.
Preliminary information indicates that Pte Amenoy Bonny, 45 years who hails from Ocini-Kamudini , Ocini Parish , Kamudini Sub county in Oyam district had a misunderstandings with his wife one Angom Betty who escaped from him.
It’s further alleged that he went on a shooting rampage as he was looking for the man who could have taken her.
The particulars of the dead persons are identified as Apiyo Sunday, 21yrs, Akidi Santino 47 and Ajalo Florence 16 yrs all of the above address. The dead bodies were taken to Dr. Amberossoli Memorial Hospital Kalongo for postmortem examination.
Mawanda identifies the injured persons as Kidega Charles Kumakech, 47 and Apiyo Janet 20 who were also evacuated to Dr. Amberossoli Memorial Hospital Kalongo for further management.
The UPDF leadership in the region regrets and condemns such an incident of misconduct and remains committed to pursuing the soldier who is still at large for prosecution at the scene of crime and justice.
Mawanda added that joint investigation by UPDF and sister security agencies is underway.
