NEWS- Katakwi grade one court this week remanded Usuk town council councilor, Jude Okiror and a taxi turn-man Bosco Egwang on accusations of assaulting Hazel Amodoi, a resident of Ongongoja Sub County.

The report indicates that the duo, agents to the Usuk MP Bosco Okiror assaulted Amodoi on 9th May 2024 for being deeply involved in supporting Richard Ongorok, the aspirant.

They were denied a court bail on 30th May 2024 and sent to prison for a remand until 6th May 2024.

D/ASP Magoola Anthony the O/C CID Katakwi district confirmed the development saying stressing that a case of assault was opened under SD 16/19/05/2024 and court finished perusal.

Ongobe Lawrence, one of the witnesses confirmed the incident saying the duo got Amodoi seated at Usuk, started questioning and holding him.

Meanwhile, the accused acknowledged the beating of Amodoi saying he was interfering with the work of their candidate.

Away from that, Women have been urged to fully participate in the government programs in order to be empowered politically, social and economically.

The chairperson of the women council in Katakwi District Hon. Marion Atim who is also the councilor for Kapujan sub county and other participants said, they are mostly left out in other government programs following their empowerment.

The concern came following the shared meeting on gender responsive service delivery and women empowerment program organized by UWONET at Royalist hotel Katakwi on Thursday.

The deputy District planner for Katakwi Ms. Eveline Atuco said, the district is trying what it takes to involve women in decision-making and benefiting from government programs.

The District vice chairperson Hon. Joseph Ecuma encouraged women not to fear participating in any program that is aimed at benefiting a common person.
