Andrew Mitchell noted that the above high profile officials were sanctioned following corruption charges of stealing from the ‘poorest’ communities in Uganda specifically Karamoja sub region citing that Among also benefited from the proceeds and will therefore be subjected to travel bans and asset freezes.

Kyagulanyi through his socials welcomes the UK’s decision and thanked them for listening to the cry of the people of Uganda.

“The United Kingdom has today imposed sanctions on Anita Among for serious corruption, and two Ministers for stealing #Karamoja Iron sheets. We welcome this decision and are always grateful whenever the world listens to the cry of the people of Uganda” Kyagulanyi wrote on his social media handles.

This is the first time the UK government has used the Global Anti-corruption sanctions regime on individuals involved in corruption in Uganda.

It should be remembered that in early last year ( 2023) several Ministers, Members of Parliament Mps and other government officials were pinned for alleged stealing the iron sheets meant for poor people in Karamoja sub region.
