The Police in Kabale District have arrested a woman who issuspected to have murdered her own child and threw in a water stream for unknown reason.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the incident and said that, the suspect identified as Akankwasa Silvia was sighted by the local people people yesterday evening with the baby but today morning she was seen without her child of around 2 years .

Maate explained that this raised a suspicion among the locals about the whereabouts of the child and this prompted the locals to go and report the matter to the Area LC 1 Chairperson Samaki Stella who also asked the suspect where her child was but she couldn’t tell her.
However, the local started a search for the child and managed to get clothes dumped in a toilet where the suspect was residing which raised a suspicion that the child was killed.
This prompted the Chairperson to report the matter to Kabale Police and upon arrest and interview the suspect told the Police that she had killed her child and dumped her in a water stream in Butobere.
Maate said that the Police including SOCO, Homicide team and Fire Brigade, led by District CID Officer responded to the scene and managed to recover the dead body of the juvenile from the water spring.
The body was retrieved and taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination as investigations continue.
