NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 16 year old Erias Ahereza a resident of Nyakagyera village in Burora Parish in Nyarushanje Sub county Rukungiri District.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has said that it is alleged that on unknown date, Ninsiima Regisi, a step mother to the deceased assaulted and locked him in a room for a week until on 19th August 2024 afternoon when the neighbor informed area LC 1 Chairman Aston Mutabazi about the incident who immediately intervened and took the deceased to Kebisoni Health Centre IV but was later referred to Kisiizi Hospital where he was pronounced dead on 20th August 2024 evening.
The Police of Kiyenje Police Post were alerted and case of murder was registered, the crime scene was visited and examined and documented, the suspect was arrested and the body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center lll Mortuary for the postmortem examination as investigations continue to establish the likely motive to this child torture and eventual death and the case of murder was registered under reference number CRB 979/2024 to continue with inquiries.
Meanwhile the Police in Rukungiri have registered a fatal traffic road accident where a 17 year old Ayesiga Dismus a resident of Buyanja died on the spot yesterday at Buyanja Town along Rukungiri -Ntungamo road in Rukungiri District.
It’s alleged that, while the deceased was riding motor cycle registration number UFJ 623W from Rukungiri side heading towards Ntungamo direction at a high speed following a Vehicle from behind, when he reached at Gas Fuel Station in Buyanja Town.
Its reported that, he decided to overtake it without considering the traffic rules and he drifted from his lane and tried to brake- upon seeing another vehicle registration number UAU 865J Isuzu forward driven by Byamukama Shaban which was coming from the opposite direction and in the due course, he had ahead on collision and died on spot.
Maate said that the scene was visited examined and documented and relevant statements recorded and postmortem examination was conducted and both the vehicle and motorcycle are parked at Buyanja Police Station pending IOV inspection and accident was primarily blamed on reckless riding by the motorcyclist and the case was registered under reference number TAR 71/2024 to help in investigations.
