The Police in Kanungu District have confirmed and registered a single fatal road accident that claimed life of one person and injured the second one.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the accident that took place yesterday 11th March 2026 evening at Munyaga Bridge along Bwindi – Butogota Road in Kanungu district.
Maate explained that the motor vehicle involved was registration number UBR 167B whose driver one Mukunya Philip, a resident of Maruka in Industrial Division of Mbale City died on spot.
Maate also identified the survivor as 39 old Mugabe Richard, also a resident of Maruka Industrial Division in Mbale City who was its turnman.
Maate told journalists today afternoon’s that it is alleged that, while the driver was from the Bwindi side carrying Iron ore heading to Kampala, as he approached Munyaga Bridge, he lost control of the vehicle and it eventually overturned into the River Munyaga killing him on spot.
Maate said that the scene was visited and documented by Kanungu District Traffic Officer Nsabiyera Herbert and team and the injured victim was rushed to Doctors Case Clinic in Kihihi Town Council for medical attention and the body was taken to Bwindi Community Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.

The Police have since reported that preliminary investigations into the accident attributed it to suspected break failure.
