The Democratic Front has condemned the cases of malpractices and election violence exhibited in the NRM primaries, which took place on Thursday nothing that if such vices aren’t checked,Perpetrators are likely to export the violence to the general elections.
The NRM party went to the polls to select flag bearers for the 2026 general elections at the parliamentary level.
However, the exercise was marred by violence, bribery, intimidation, and direct involvement of security agencies in the party elections.
Addressing the media today, Democratic Front’s Electoral Commission Chairperson, Henry Lubowa, noted that the violence and various forms of election malpractices exhibited in yesterday’s elections send a dangerous signal of what is likely to happen in the 2026 general elections.
Lubowa stated that this violence is likely to be exported to the general elections, calling on Ugandans to condemn these acts of violence and to reject and blacklist all NRM candidates who secured tickets through violence and malpractices.
The Democratic Front’s comments were echoed during today’s return of expression of interest forms and nomination of party members aspiring for different political offices at all levels.
Nominated are George Ssemakula for Katikamu South, Moreen Nakuya for the woman member of Parliament for Luweero district, Dr. Innocent Ssenyange for Bamunaanika constituency, Mulumba Edwin for Katikamu North, and others at both local government and national political offices.
Mr. Innocent Ssenyange and Mrs. Moreen Nakuya informed the media that their desire to contest for political offices stems from the lack of a strong voice for the people of Luweero in the legislative arm of government, where most national issues are decided.
Today’s nomination marked the fourth day of the party’s nomination process, and a total of over 150 candidates at both parliamentary and local government levels have returned expression of interest forms to the party’s Electoral Commission since the exercise started
