The Vice President Major Jessica Alupo Epel has met and held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan Rt Hon ISHIBA Shigeru on her visit to Japan to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).
Prime Minister ISHIBA expressed his wish to further enhance bilateral cooperation with Uganda, described as the “Pearl of Africa” and a crucial transportation hub in East Africa.
Vice President Alupo conveyed greetings from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to Prime Minister ISHIBA, mentioning commonality between TICAD and the Non-Aligned Movement, of which Uganda holds the presidency, and expressed his desire to further develop the good bilateral relationship.
Prime Minister ISHIBA expressed his respect for Uganda, Africa’s largest refugee-host country, and stated that Japan would continue to support Uganda’s efforts as one of the co-hosts of Global Refugee Forum and stated that Japan would contribute to strengthening regional connectivity, referring to the fact that Japan is implementing the re-construction of the Karuma Bridge on the Northern Corridor.
In addition, Prime Minister ISHIBA, mentioning that Lot 1 of the Kampala Flyover Construction was completed and the improvement of Traffic Control in Kampala city will be completed this August, expressed his expectation that these projects would contribute to Uganda’s economic growth.
In response, Vice President Alupo expressed her gratitude for Japan’s support to date and her expectation for further support from Japan, notably infrastructure development.
