The Police in Rukungiri District have registered a serious accident that turned fatal after claiming life of one person and left others critically injured.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the accident and said that it took place at Kakabada – Butagatsi in Western Division in Rukungiri Municipality along Rukungiri – Kihiihi road.
Maate identified the deceased as 34 year old Nelson Mandela, a rider of motorcycle registration number UGG 362N and a resident of Karangaro village in Western Division of Rukungiri Municipality.
Maate named the injured as 32 year old Amanya Bruce and 45 year old Jolly Mugume both residents of Kahororo village in Karangaro who were passengers on the motorcycle.
Maate said that the rider of yet to be unidentified motorcycle identified as Nabasa Amos, a boda boda rider of Furuma Village in Karangaro Ward in Western Division in Rukungiri Municipality was also injured.
It is alleged the deceased was carrying two passengers from Nyakibale Hospital heading to the direction of Kihihi and upon by passing Rukungiri District headquarters, another rider emerged from the feeder road on the left hand side of the deceased on the lane from Rukungiri Town to Kihihi and both riders and the passegers were critically injured and rushed to Case Medical Clinic in Rukungiri.
Maate said tgat unfortunately upon arrival at case clinic, Nelson mandela was pronounced dead while the other rider and the other 2 passengers were admitted at the same clinic.
The scene was visited and documented and Motorcycle registration number UGG 362N was retrieved from the scene and parked at Rukungiri Central Police Station Yard pending Inspector of Vehicles inspection and the other unidentified motorcycle is still at large because it was whisked away by unknown people.
The body of the deceased was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III Mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations into the matter continue.
