The Police in Kisoro District are hunting for suspects who allegedly murdered a 43 year old woman identified as Sylvia Nyirandagije, a resident of Masaka village in Nyakabingo Parish in Chahi Sub-county.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the death of the deceased who went missing on the 15th December 2025 to unknown place, until today 17th when her body was discovered in a hole at Bihanga village in Nyakabingo Parish.

The deceased was discovered by a passerby who was going for a short call besides the road from Iryaruhuri Trading Center to Kisoro Town at Bihanga village and then alerted other people including the area chairperson  Bihanga village Nteziyaremye Jackson and the LC 1 Chairman of Masaka village Habyara William.

The scene of crime was visited and documented and the body was retrieved from the scene and conveyed to Kisoro General Hospital Mortuary for the postmortem examination and found that it had injuries and a piece of cloth tied around the neck.

Maate explained that however, no report of disappearance was made to the Police by her relatives for any action, however investigations are going on to establish the motive of the murder and those behind it.

This becomes the 6th unexplained murder in one week in Kigezi Sub Region as Christmas nears which have left the residents in shock and fear.

The murders comes at a time when Kigezi Sub-region is in preparation to host the annual Tarehe Sita on 6th February 2026 and several activities are ongoing and both the civil and security are now concerned and want more operations put in place to check the growing number of the unexplainable murders.
