The North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop, Rt Rev Onesimus Asiimwe, has announced that the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, will visit the North Kigezi Diocese from March 14 to 16, 2026. This visit is particularly notable as it coincides with Bishop Asiimwe’s third anniversary thanksgiving for Episcopal Ministry.

Archbishop Kazimba, who is reaching the mandatory retirement age, will take this opportunity to bid farewell to the North Kigezi Diocesan community as he prepares for retirement.

During the recent Diocesan Council meeting held on a Friday at Emmanuel Cathedral, Kinyasano, in Rukungiri District—presided over by Bishop Asiimwe—the Council approved the elevation of three churches to parish status, pending final approval by the Diocesan Synod. The churches set for this elevation include:

  • St. James Nyamizi Church of Uganda under Kyatoko Parish
  • St. James Nyaburondo Church of Uganda under Kasoroza Parish
  • Katungu Church of Uganda under Bwanga Archdeaconry

The meeting gathered clergy and lay leaders from across the Diocese to review achievements over the past year and to set spiritual, administrative, and mission priorities for 2026.

Among the significant resolutions made during the Diocesan Council was the establishment of February 15 as a special Sunday dedicated to Canon Ndimbirwe Bible College. All offerings collected on this day will be directed toward the financial support of the college.

Bishop Asiimwe outlined key priorities for 2026, emphasizing the importance of strengthening leadership and governance structures, improving human resource management and staff welfare, enhancing health and education institutions, completing the registration of churches and church land, and fostering unity and peace throughout the Diocese.

The upcoming visit and the plans for the year ahead signify a pivotal moment for the North Kigezi Diocese, as it bids farewell to a respected leader while also laying the groundwork for future progress and community support.
