The Police in Kasese District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of 40 year old man identified as Charles 

Bwambale Kabaya who was a night watch man and resident of Kidodo cell in Central Division in Kasese Municipality.

The Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident that occured at yesterday at Kanyangeya cell where the deceased was found dead around their area with odour of suspected herbicides coming from him.

This prompted them to inform their area chairperson who later reported the matter at Railway Police station for further management and the scene of crime was visited and documented, the body retrieved from the scene and conveyed to Kasese municipal health centre Mortuary for postmortem. 

It was established that, the deceased has been a night watch man guarding at St Mark Railway Church of Uganda and that during the night of 13th Sept 2025, the above church was broken into and church property which included a music system and a screen were stolen from the church and that, upon realizing that the church had been broken into and the said property stolen, he disappeared from his beat and at the time Police responded to the scene, he was nowhere to be seen. 

Maate explained that the deceased later called his relatives informing them of how property a his best had been stolen and he promised them that he was going to commit suicide since he was not ready to suffer in prison.
