NEWS- The Police in Kisoro District have registered a fatal road accident where two people lost their lives and others were left with life threatening injuries.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the accident that involved Motorcycle registration number UGD 294F and a pedestrian.
Maate told journalists today morning that the accident took place last night at Rurangara village in Mupaka Town Council in Kisoro District along Mwaro – Busiga feeder road in Mupaka Town Council.
Maate identified the deceased as 44 year old woman Mukanoheri Anastasia a resident of Kabaya village in Nyarubuye Sub-county in Kisoro district, who was a passenger on the motorcycle and Ntakirutimana Priscilla aged 50 years old and a resident of Kabaya village in Mupaka Town Council also in Kisoro District also a passenger on motorcycle.
The injured included 17 year old girl Ntakisanayo Odira female a resident of Rurangara village in Mupaka Town Council in Kisoro District and a pedestrian and the rider of the Motorcycle only known as Vincent of Kabaya village in Mupaka Town Council in Kisoro district, who immediately fled the scene and is still at large.
Maate said that it is is alleged that the motorcycle rider was carrying two female passengers from the burial in Busigi going to Nyarubuye side at a high speed and without lights and on reaching Rurangara village in Mupaka Town Council, he met a pedestrian who was also crossing the road and knocked her right leg lost control and fell down with the two female passengers who died on spot.
Maate said that the scene of the accident was visited by Kisoro District Traffic Officer Kushaba Micheal and team who drew a sketch map and the bodies of thecdeceased were taken to Kisoro General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination and the abandoned motorcycle was retrieved from the scene and is parked at Kisoro Central Police Station pending IoV inspection.
Maate said that investigations are ongoing and efforts to have the suspected ridee arrested and preliminary investigations indicate that the cause of the accident was over speeding and riding a motorcycle without head lights.
