NEWS- A Medical Intern at Mbarara University Teaching Hospital who is also the National Welfare Chairperson for Medical Interns in Uganda, Dr Brian Tumwakire has joined the race for Western Uganda Youth Parliamentary Seat in the coming elections.
Born February 1998, Dr. Brian Tumwakire attended Kiruruma Primary School where he sat for Primary Leaving Examinations in 2010 and proceeded to Kihihi High School where he sat for his Uganda Certificate of Education in 2014 and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education at San Giovanni School Makiro in 2016.
Dr. Brian Rumwakire excelled and joined University to study a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and surgery from Kampala International University (KIU) Western Campus 2017-2023, and graduated in 2024 and is currently deployed for Medical Internship at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.
Dr Brian Tumwakire who hails from Kihihi Town Council in Kanungu District is not new to leadership and has a vast experience he has already attained during his time in school.
He is the current Uganda National Welfare Chairperson for Medical Interns in Uganda for 2024/25 a job he is executing very well and in 2022/24, he was the representative Kampala International University – Western Campus Medical school at Seed Global Uganda, while in 2022/23, he served as a class Ambassador at Association of Medical Students of Kampala International Unuversity Committee.
In 2020, Dr Brian Tumwakire served as the Interim leader of Higher Education Students Financing Board (HESFB) sponsored students of Kampala International University and in 2018/19, was the Deputy Secretary General Association of HESFB sponsored students of Kampala International University Western Campus, while in 2018/20 he was the President Association of Kanungu KIU students and in in 2021/23, he served as the President Association of United University Students from Kanungu.
He said that he is driven to join Parliament so that he can raise the Youth voices in Uganda which have for long been silenced.
“Millions of young people are disproportionately affected by poverty, unemployment, underemployment and poor representation in leadership and strategic decision making at the local government and central government levels,” He said.
Dr. Tumwakire says that despite the young people’s entrepreneurial spirit, many young people have been denied access to start-up capital to establish their own businesses enterprises while others have limited knowledge and skills to effectively run their businesses.
He noted that the National Youth Council and all Youth structures have been skeletonised and left non functional due to under funding and less priority given to them during the budget process,and everything seems to be business as usual,despite the young people shouting out for help with their voices unheard.
“For so long young people have cried out for support but often times, this support never comes and even when it comes, it’s tokenistic in approach, and these irregularities need immediate solutions, create safe space for the young people to operate in all spheres of life,” Dr Tumwakire emphasized.
Dr. Tumwakire who is contesting on the National Resistance Movement ticket, said that once elected Youth Member of Parliament, he will use his position to raise the Youth problems and ensure that they are addressed accordingly.
