The Woman Member of Parliament for Rukiga District, Hon Dr Sylvia Tumuheirwe Alinaitwe has appealed to Parliament for urgent government intervention to restore a Martenity Wing at Kashambya Health Centre III warning that it’s collapse is forcing women to deliver babies at home.

While speaking during Prime Minister’s Time Dr Alinaitwe told the House that one side of Kashambya HC III, which houses the maternity unit collapsed and the remaining part of the structure has developed cracks and is likely to collapse anytime and needs urgent attention.

She noted that the Health Centre serves a large population in Rukiga and neighboring communities of  Rubanda  and Rukungiri Districts.

In response, Minister of Health Hon Dr Chris Baryomunsi assured the House of immediate action saying that she sympathized with the people and will immediately dispatch a team of Engineers from Ministry of Health to make a quick assessment and the take action.

Dr. Alinaitwe’s submission highlights the continued strain on rural health infrastructure and the risks to maternal and newborn health when primary facilities are not functional.
