The Uganda Police in Kigezi Sub-region are overwhelmed by increased cases of suicide cases and have cautioned members of the public undergoing stress, depression and financial difficulties to always seek support from counsellors, religious leaders or trusted friends.
This caution comes shortly after the Police in Kisoro District registered two suspected suicide cases by hanging in a single day.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Nelson Tumushime confirmed the two cases and identified the deceased as 33 year year old Mbonyebyombi Brian, a resident of Chahi village in Northern Division of Kisoro Municipality and 80 year old Ndagijimana Andrew, a resident of Mataramba Village in Gisozi Parish in Muramba Sub-county all in Kisoro District.
Tumushime explained that Mbonyebyombi yesterday returned home while drunk and requested his wife to serve him food, but after a short time, the woman went back in the bedroom and found the body Mbonyebyombi hanging on the rope.
Tumushime told journalists that it is also reported that the deceased had attempted to commit suicide several times especially after consuming excessive alcohol.
Meanwhile, Tumushime explained that at Mataramba village, Nyirayanze Tereza the wife to Ndagijimana went to Republic of Congo to till her land and when she returned she found the door of the house locked from inside.
Nyirayenze is reported to have tried to push the door but she failed and she called her neighbors who broke the door and found the body of the late Ndagijimana hanging on the rope.
Tumushime has strongly condemned the acts of people taking their own lives and encourage members of the general public to seek counselling.
