The Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Hon David Bahati has assured farmers across the country that the government of Uganda is committed to support organised farmer groups in order for them to move beyond from production to Value addition.
The Minister said that farmers who want to venture into value addition to target export markets like Dubai and China are encouraged to form cooperative to utilize affordable financing through the Agricultural Credit Facility ander Uganda Development Bank.

Minister Bahati who was accompanied by the Minister of State for Finance in Charge of General Duties, Hon Cissy Mulondo made the revelation today while visiting where they met members of the Kikyusa Pineapple Farmers Cooperative Society Ltd in Kawundwe Village in Nakasongola District,
The cooperative was formed by farmers who came together to harness the potential of pineapple growing covering over 640 acres and provide employment to about 2,000 Ugandans.
He also said that with pineapples taking about 18 months to mature, the opportunity for growth, value addition, and increased household incomes is enormous.
Minister Bahati also promised that government will also pursue practical solutions around a pineapple processing plant, value addition machinery, cold storage, transport and market access.
