HOIMA- The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu has consecrated and enthroned Rev Jacob Ateirweho as the 6th Bishop of Bunyoro – Kitara Diocese at a colorful ceremony that took place St Peter’s Cathedral Hoima to replace Bishop Samuel Kahuma who retired after clocking the mandatory retirement age.
Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu was the main celebrant while the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja was the Chief Guest representing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The Archbishop called for a united fight against corruption and release of young people arrested recently in the protests against corruption.
“Let us join hands in fighting corruption. I call upon the leadership at all levels to fight corruption as we joined in fighting homosexuality. I call upon government to appreciate dialogue when it comes to other players who would like to join the fight. Some young people who were arrested recently should be released and helped to follow the right procedure.” Archbishop Kaziimba said.
He added, “Prisons are suffocating with people whose cases should have been cleared long ago. Let us work together to keep peace, unity and development.”
In his sermon, Rt Rev Nathan Ahimbisibwe the Bishop of South Ankole Diocese who was also the retreat leader, called upon faithfuls to wear the helmet of salvation to be protected from sin.

The President donated a brand new land cruiser and Ugx 30 million to the new Bishop while the Christians led by the organizing committee gifted the retiring Bishop Samuel Kahuma a brand new Toyota Harrier and Rt Hon Nabbanja donated Ugx 5 million to both newly consecration Bishop Ateirweho Bishop Emeritus Kahuma.
Bishop Ateirweho pledged to focus on improving the self-sustainability agenda for the Diocese, equip ministers in Discipleship, focus on education and improve liturgy.
The function was attended by a number of Bishops from the Church of Uganda, several Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament hailing from Bunyoro Sub Region and Bunyoro Kingdom officials among other dignitaries.
