In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, General Edward Katumba Wamala, the Minister of Works and Transport and a decorated military general, visited the grieving family of the late retired Major Babumba Henry Bwohe. Major Babumba, a senior pilot and ground instructor in the Uganda People’s Defence Air Force (UPDF), passed away on 23 December 2025 at Nakasero Hospital.

During the visit, Gen. Katumba expressed his condolences to Major Babumba’s widow and family, emphasizing the great sacrifices made by the late soldier for the nation. He acknowledged the family’s efforts to support their fallen hero during his lifetime and reiterated the importance of ensuring that the late Major’s children receive a quality education.

“Such experienced military personnel, who have made immeasurable sacrifices for our country, deserve to be honored with proper military burials,” said Gen. Katumba. He referred to the burial arrangements for other military heroes, including the late Colonel Jet Mwebaze, a practice the family appreciated.

The General urged the family to remain united and to trust that God would provide for them in their time of need. “I requested God to continue strengthening the family to remain united. Effective communication is essential to avoid unnecessary conflicts. Allow peace to guide you forward,” he added.

Mrs. Kyarisiima Margaret, the widow of the deceased, expressed her gratitude to the Commander of Armed Forces, who is also the President of the Republic of Uganda Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the UPDF medical teams for loving and taking care of her spouse during his time of service until his departure.

Mrs. Kyarisiima hailed Katumba for his support, which she attributed to her late husband’s contributions to the National Resistance Army (NRA). She also conveyed appreciation for the minister’s regular visits and financial assistance during her husband’s hospitalization.

“I also pray for Minister Katumba and his family for more years and God’s protection,” said Mrs. Kyarisiima, acknowledging the significant role played by His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in supporting the family during their challenging time.

Moses Mugisha Magufuri, son of the late Major, assured General Katumba that they would honor their father’s wishes for a dignified burial. He promised to foster unity within the family and uphold the principles that guided his father.

Gen. Katumba’s visit was a powerful testament to the bonds of love within the community, reinforcing the values of service, compassion, and unity that Maj. Babumba exemplified throughout his life. As the family mourns his loss, they draw strength from their faith and community support, determined to carry forward his legacy of integrity and love for humanity.

Burial arrangements will be announced once family consultations are completed according to the deceased’s wishes.

Katumba Wamala’s visit follows a series of other government officials and church leaders that have been visiting the family since the demise of their parent on January 22nd 2026. These include Minister Monica Musenero, Pastor Wilson Bugembe, Secretary Gen of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, Gen Ivan Koreta, His Highness Isabaruri, ArchBishop of Church of Uganda Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu among others.
