Commissioner of Prisons Apollo Bakwate Akankunda taking the Junior Officers through life changing skills

Uganda Prisons Officers have been asked to match their personal goals with the Uganda Prison Service’s development plans.

The call was made by the Director of Administration in Uganda Prisons Service Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons John Bosco Tumwebaze while addressing Junior officers from the Uganda Prison Headquarters attending a special training at Lake Victoria Beach Cottages in Kigo.

The training focused on improving customer care, mindset change, building good relationships with the public, and managing money wisely.

Tumwebaze said officers should start planning for retirement from the day they join the service and set big dreams to stay focused and motivated.

While speaking at the same event, the Deputy Director CCA/Service Spokesperson, Senior Commissioner of Prisons Frank Baine, led a session on handling money and shared a simple idea called the AIM model—Activity, Ideas, Money—to help staff save and grow their money.

He advised the Junior Officers to make smart choices, avoid depending on loans, and not mix up what they want with what they need to prevent overspending and also suggested using Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to live a happier, less stressful life.

The Director of National, Regional, International Cooperation Commissioner of Prisons Apollo Bakwate Akankunda, taught about acting professional and keeping a good image, stressed giving great service, building strong relationships and showing a positive side of the Service.

The Junior staff thanked the trainers for the helpful lessons and said the new skills will help them serve better, act more professionally and build better connections with people saying that this training is a big step toward improving the Uganda Prison Service’s work and helping staff grow personally and professionally.
