The Police in Kanungu District are investigating a suspected arson that claimed one life and destroyed several house hold items worthy millions of shillings.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Nelson Tumushime has confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as 61 year old Byakurama Justus Kasenene, a former LC 1 of Bikomero Village in Katungu Parish in Rugyeyo Sub-county in Kanungu District.
Tumushime explained that it is alleged that the deceased who list the LC 1 election yesterday, went to his residential home together with his family members and during the night, fire gutted his kitchen and slowly spread to the main House.Â
The deceased together with his family members tried to put off the fire but we’re overpowered by the volume of the fire hence sustained serious injuries/ burns on his body.
Tumushime said that the victim was rushed to Kambuga Hospital in Kambuga Town Council for medical care but later pronounced dead after getting admitted and investigations still ongoing to establish the exact cause of the death.
