Witch Doctors at Court

NEWS- The Mitooma district chief Magistrate’s court has denied bail to three witch doctors accused of human trafficking and receiving money by false pretence.

Court that was presided over by the chief magistrate His worship Toroko Simon further heard from the prosecution led by the complainant Eserida Twikiriize that on 23rd June 2024, the trio Musimenta Kamadi, Tumusiimee Moses and Nadia Katushabe all residents of Mushunga parish in Mitooma sub county, Mitooma district while at Kibingo cell in Mushunga received Ugx 5.2million from one Twikiriize Eserida resident of Mbarara and locked her in a house for three days.

This was after transporting her from her other home in Rukiga to Mushunga in Mitooma and started demanding more Ugx 14 million from the relatives but later released her after failure to receive the requested amount.

This forced the relatives to report to the Police that started tracking them until they landed on them in Mbarara where they were hiding.

After hearing all this, the accused persons claimed to know nothing about this case, something that forced the state attorney Keshubi Caroline to ask for more time to proceed with the hearing process of the case.

However, the accused through their lawyer council Joel Nuwagaba placed their bail application before court which was not honoured by the presiding magistrate.

In his remarks, His Worship Simon Toroko noted that from the testimony given by the complainant, the case needs enough time before the accused are bailed hence a need to first hear from more witnesses. He thereafter further remanded them until 26/09/2024 when they will reappear in court.
