Museveni arriving in Lira to meet the Leaders

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has met over 15,000 National Resistance Movement leaders from across Lango Sub Region.

The Leaders raised the issue of poor connectivity, especially the eastern access, and the President told them that he will study the matter.

President Museveni noted that it makes no sense for someone from Namasale, only 80 miles from Kampala, to be forced to go around through Lira, Kamdini and Karuma to get to Kampala and therefore balanced infrastructure remains central to transformation journey.

President Museveni also took the Lango Leader through what he has already done through prioritization of infrastructuraldevelopments.

He mentioned the construction of the Soroti–Lira road, the Rwenkunyu – Masindi Port – Lira–Apac road and the ongoing Bobi – Aboke works and appreciated their proposals.

President Museveni also said that the government shall review the construction of Dokolo – Bata – Abako – Aloe road, which they believe will boost trade, tourism and regional access.

President Museveni reminded the meeting that Lango knows the cost of insecurity from Amin, especially the 1979 to 1985 turmoil, the Lords Resistance Army war and cattle rustling by the Karimajong.

He said that the peace the National Resistance Movement (NRM) restored is the foundation of all progress, and those playing with it must be careful.

President Museveni also informed the Leaders from Lango that the government shall discuss how to support the NRM grassroots leaders, whether through a limited salary structure or a more sustainably through wealth creation programmes like Operation Wealth Creation and the Parish Development Model.

The meeting was attended by the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Among who is also the National Vice Chairperson (Female) for the NRM party, the Secretary General Hon Richard Todwong Among many other top party officials.
