President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged additional support investments for value addition on Uganda’s products to control haemorrhage of the country’s recourses drained to foreign lands through the sell of raw/unprocessed products.
While commissioning the Africa Coffee Park a Subsidiary Coffee value addition facility of Inspire Africa Coffee in Ntungamo District, President Museveni noted that Africa’s development has for long been dettered by the draining of resources in its raw products processed abroad which deprives of jobs and wealth opportunities from the people
President Museveni explained how Africa continent at large has lost opportunities for its growth over the years with comparison to countries whose development is attached to resources and products Africa that he says must change.
President Museveni explained thar the GDP variation between the abundantly resourced Africa and other continents as explains Africa’s competitive advantage to overturn the status quo.
President Museveni said Uganda’s export earnings continue to surpass the import bill attributed to the country’s efforts to enhanced production and value addition to resources and products and cited the example of coffee value addition strides that have exponentially boosted the coffee sector and realized real income flow for households involved and the country at large.
He recommended that the private sector players foster value addition on Uganda’s raw products like inspire Africa Coffee and rallied other actors to follow suit and promised to fasttracks the step up of electricity supply for full-scale production at The Africa Coffee Park and other needed enablers for production.
While speaking at the same function, the Minister for Ppresidency Hon Milly Babalanda noted that the Coffee development initiative by Inspire Africa Coffee is a classic example of the NRM’s strategic gains for Uganda in as far as wealth creation, development and socioeconomic transformation is concerned.
