Rubaare Police at the crime scene

‎The Police in Ntungamo is investigating circumstances under which a cobbler man in his late 50s who committed suicide by hanging in his rented room.

‎According to police statement made by the wife of the deceased Ms Gladys Ninsiima, 42 years old at Rubaare police station a resident of Rubaare II cell, Kagango ward, she identified the deceased as her husband Posiano Sunday who was self employed as a cobbler of the same address.

‎Ms Ninsiima narrated the ordeal of her husband’s death that he hanged himself at around 8:35 am Saturday 15th November, 2025 when she left home to Ntungamo Yebigyere to buy fresh maize to cook since it’s her daily work to earn a living.

‎” I received a distress call from my neighbours that my husband has hanged himself inside our rented room using a lope, my efforts and neighbour’s efforts to rescue my husbands life was all in vain since I was far from the place of incident and neighbours failed because he locked himself inside the room”. Police statement reads in part.

‎Some neighbours around the place of incident said the deceased has been taking poisonous liquids to end his life and several times he could try to hang himself over stress but rescued by residents but today made it successful.

‎It is alleged that the wife used to beat him and neighbours suspect to have committed suicide over stress.

‎According to Kyabukuju I chairperson Mr Kenneth Byaaki the incident brings a total of over four people commiting suicide by hanging. He said in 2024 Late December Gilbert Akankwasa and Darius the son of Kagyendabusha in their late 20s both took their lives by hanging  and in 2023 Niwahereza in his late 20s too took his life by hanging all residents of Rubaare town council.

Police urged the public to avoid committing suicide over stress and other challenges instead they seek counseling from counselors.
