NEWS- It was a disheartening Tuesday, December 19th 2023 following a tragic accident that claimed four lives along the Mbarara -Kasese highway in Sheema District.
SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesman identified the deceased as Kakooza Kasim from Wakiso District, Rukwengye Eria (96) from Mitooma District, Keinerugaba James (8), and Ssemboze George (69) from Rwebikoona-Mbarara City.
Tumusiime added that four other people including Mushabe Jolly, Atuhaire, Abasi Edgar, and Natamba Simon, sustained injuries and are currently nursing wounds.
The accident involved two vehicles, a Toyota Fielder, registration number UBK 919X driven by Kakooza Kasim and a Mitsubishi Canter pickup registration number UAJ 337R driven by Ssemboze George.
The Regional Police PRO confided to this reporter that the accident occurred around 7:00AM at Kinaaku-Kyenkokora, along the Mbarara-Kasese Highway when Kasim attempted to avoid stagnant water, swerving into the path of Ssemboze George’s oncoming vehicle.
The bodies were taken to Kabwohe Health Center IV mortuary for postmortem, while the injured were rushed to the same facility for treatment.
SSP Tumusiime, reported that both vehicles await inspection at the Sheema police yard, and the scene has been investigated by ASP Mugisha Canicius and the traffic team.
