The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Anita Among, has firmly dismissed speculation about her presidential ambitions, branding the claims as “rubbish” and reaffirming her loyalty to President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership and succession plans.
While speaking during the handover of a Ugx 100 million contribution raised through the purchase of kits in support of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 52nd Birthday Run, Speaker Among announced that she will retire from elective politics in 2031.

The Muhoozi charity event aims to raise funds for vulnerable children across Uganda.
Rt Hon Among stated that by the time she exits active politics, she will have “overachieved,” signaling confidence in her political legacy and contributions to the country.
Her remarks come amid persistent rumors surrounding her political future, as well as ongoing debates over controversial proposals to extend presidential and parliamentary terms from five to seven years.
A senior figure within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Among emphasized her commitment to supporting President Museveni’s endorsed successor, distancing herself from any suggestion of building a parallel power base.
The Speaker was welcomed at the Patriotic League of Uganda by the the organisation Secretary General Hon Daudi Kabanda and Igara East Member of Parliament Hon Micheal Mawanda among many others.
