Minister Ogwang in Rwenzori marathon

NEWS- Leading by example, Minister of State for Sports, Peter Ogwang this morning shocked thousands of participants in Kasese district when he won a medal in the Rwenzori Marathon.

The serious and determined Minister won the medal in the 10KM race after finishing in the 6th position.

Speaking to the media shortly after crossing the finishing line, Ogwang said, it was such an exhilarating experience to participate in the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon in the beautiful terrains of Kasese District.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I participated in the 10km run and emerged the 6th.  I congratulate my brother Amos Wekesa, the Ministry of Tourism, and other partners for making this happen”, Ogwang said.

He noted that, such marathons provide a pathway that nurtures and ushers young athletes to the competitive world of sports.

Rwenzori Marathon provides a unique opportunity for us to promote healthy living in the wake of non-communicable diseases, promote young talents, boost tourism among others.

I am delighted by the number of tourists that took part in the run. It is a testament that Uganda is indeed the number one tourism destination country. Together, we need to consolidate our efforts as stakeholders and use sports to promote tourism as our country’s niche. Trust me, the benefits will be immense”, Ogwang said.

Over 3,000 participants from 33 countries took part in this year’s 3rd edition. Congratulations Hon Minister for the well-deserved medal.
