Uganda Prisons Service, in partnership with the International Development Law Organization have launched a five-day Training of Trainers workshop at Admas Hotel in Entebbe to strengthen the Sexual Offender Treatment Program.

The initiative, aimed at enhancing offender rehabilitation, was opened by Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons, Hillary Bisanga who represented  the Commissioner General Canon Dr Johnson Byabasheija. 

The workshop equips rehabilitation and reintegration officers with skills in offender profiling, risk assessment, therapeutic techniques, case management and community reintegration and Bisanga highlighted the program’s role in professionalizing treatment, reducing recidivism, and fostering safer communities.

While speaking at the same event, the Commissioner of Prisons in Charge of Rehabilitation and Reintegration, Ms Juliet Nantale emphasized the program’s transformative potential, describing it as a pathway to accountability and reintegration through evidence-based interventions.

The training aligns with Uganda Prisons Service commitment to human rights, restorative justice, and international standards, marking a significant step toward specialized rehabilitation for sexual offenders and participants, set to become master trainers, were urged to campion the program’s nationwide rollout with professionalism and dedication.
