NEWS- The territorial traffic police in Rakai, on Tuesday 26th March 2024 at around 1:30 pm, recorded a single fatal accident involving motor vehicle UAP 559X Canter Lorry at Kiganda along Kyalulangira-Isingiro Road.
SP Michael Kananura the traffic police directorate spokesperson says preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the said motor vehicle was carrying 35 people who were heading to Isingiro, lost control of the vehicle and overturned killing 10 people instantly and injuring 25 others.
Kananura narrates that the traffic Police responded to the scene immediately, and the bodies were transported to Kyalulangira Health Centre III mortuary for post-mortem examination.
The victims were also taken to the same health centre facility for first aid, and they were later transferred to Rakia Hospital for treatment.
According to Kananura, the driver ran away from the scene and the forces are looking for him adding that investigations into the cause of this crash have kicked off.
He urges motorists and all road users to be cautious, especially as the Easter festivities fast approach.
