The Police have confirmed that a total of ten people have been confirmed dead and three others injured following a fatal road crash that occurred today morning in Busowa Town Council in Bugiri District along the Busia Highway and involved Taxi registration number UBN 817H and a stationary trailer registration number UA 647BA.

According to a Police statement issued by Kananura Michael, the spokesperson of the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, Micheal Kananura, the crash resulted from reckless overtaking.

Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of the Taxi attempted to overtake an unidentified vehicle but was met by oncoming traffic and an attempt to avoid a head-on collision, he swerved sharply to the left, lost control, and crashed into the parked trailer.

The impact killed ten people instantly, including the Taxi driver and the three survivors were rushed to hospital for emergency medical care, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the Mortuary and Police have launched investigations into the incident.

Authorities have again cautioned motorists against dangerous road behavior such as speeding and unsafe overtaking, which remain major contributors to fatal crashes nationwide as Christmas gets closer.
