NEWS- There is panic in Kasese District as it has registered three new cases of Mpox, making seven, the total number of cases so far confirmed in the district.

On July 24, this year, the Ministry of Health declared an outbreak of Mpox in Bukonzo County West, Kasese district.

The first four cases involved a 37 -year-old Congolese housewife, a resident ofKambukamabwe, a 22 -year -old man in Kamukumbi, a 30 -year -old Boda-boda rider in Kabuyiri and a 27- year -old causal laborer in Nyabugando. Currently, Uganda has 164 confirmed cases and one death.

Mr. Araf Bwambale, the Kasese District Surveillance Focal Person told the press today morning that three new cases had been confirmed within this week in the areas of Bukonzo County West and Kasese Municipality respectively.

Of the three cases, two are from Bukonzo County West and one in Kasese Municipality.

He has called for more vigilance and surveillance so as to combat the spread of Mpox.

Lt. Maate Magwara, the Kasese Deputy RDC in-charge of Bukonzo County who chairs the District Taskforce told the press that Mpox still remains a threat to the Local Government because of its proximity to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He was also skeptical that the consumption of sanga meat by a section of the population in Kasese could be another driver for Mpox and anthrax diseases in the district.

The RDC has since directed the political and religious leaders to join the campaign through discouragement the people from consuming unhealthy meat.
