The Bishop of South Ankole Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Nathan Ahimbisibwe, has announced plans to consecrate four new parishes and one archdeaconry in December this year as the Diocese continues to expand its ministry and bring the Word of God closer to Christians.
Preaching during the Sunday Morning Glory programme on Radio Ankole 99.3 FM, Bishop Ahimbisibwe called on Christians to support the establishment of more churches, saying efforts should focus on multiplying places of worship rather than increasing bars and lodges.
The newly created parishes are Rwengoma in Ruhaama Archdeaconry; Kyajeere and Kigaaga in Rukanda Archdeaconry; and Bubaare in Kitwe Archdeaconry.
All Saints Church Rubaare will also be elevated to an archdeaconry.
The development will increase the number of parishes in South Ankole Diocese from 73 to 77 and archdeaconries from 14 to 15.
Bishop Ahimbisibwe urged Christians to remain committed to supporting their new parishes and archdeaconries to ensure the continued expansion of God’s Kingdom.
He commended Christians across the Diocese for their desire to see more churches established in their communities.
Bishop Ahimbisibwe questioned why Christians should be trampled upon when they are willing to support the expansion of God’s Kingdom.
Meanwhile, the South Ankole Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Canon Alfred Turyamureeba, welcomed the development, saying the new churches would make it easier for elderly Christians and others who struggle to walk long distances to access church services and sacraments.
Rev. Canon Turyamureeba also noted that the creation of new parishes and archdeaconries would provide opportunities for the promotion of clergy within the Diocese.
