The Police in Rukungiri District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a six years old child identified as Stephen Ayebare a pupil at Rubanga Primary School.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists that the deceased was a resident of Kishonga Upper Cell in Rubanga North Buyanja Sub-county in Rukungiri district.
Its reported that the deceased was allegedly cut by 32 year old man identified as Anthony Begumisa who is a cousin brother for a yet to be known reasons, and critically injured his brother Ahimbisibwe Laborman who tried to help out.
The incident took place yesterday September 1st 2025, while Kyarimpa Gift was plaiting hair in her local salon, her brother Begumisa Anthony who is now a suspect was sleeping behind in the bedroom and told them to stop making noise for him and the two responded positively and moved out in the compound.
Afterward, she went to prepare supper in the kitchen together with her other brother Kiiza, where they heard the sound of a door opening and shortly heard Ayebare Stephen crying louder and when they rushed and peeped, tgey saw him cutting the deceased.
They ran away, making a louder alarm seeking for help and the area LC chairperson Kakunya Innocent gathered residents that responded to the crime scene, where they found when the suspect had locked himself inside the house, and they tried to call him, but he insisted on killing anyone trying to arrest him by igniting the power saw machine.
However, the residents managed to forcefully open the door, and one of his brother Ahimbisibwe Laborman entered persuading him to stop violence, where instead turned against him and cut him severely using a panga.
Maate explained that the residents overpowered and arrested him, and the victims were taken to Nyakibale hospital where Ayebare Stephen was pronounced dead.
The case of murder was reported at Buyanja Police Station and the crime scene was visited, examined and documented and statements were recorded from eye witnesses and the
exhibit of a panga and power saw were recovered and the suspect was arrested and the postmortem examination was done at Nyakibale Mission Hospital Mortuary as investigations continue.
