NEWS– The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu has commended the Bishop of the Diocese of Kinkiizi, Rt Rev Dan Zoreka for his steadfast leadership and mission focus that has transformed the Diocese into a model Diocese.
This was contsined in a message read for him by Bishop Emeritus Eng George Bagamuhunda of the Diocese of Kigezi during Bishop Dan Zoreka’s thanksgiving for 13 years as a Bishop at St Peter’s Cathedral, Nyakatare in Kanungu District.
“From the moment you entered this ministry, I have often referred to you as a ‘Miracle’ Bishop. You have not only met but exceeded the expectations of many by emerging as a visionary, missionary, and development-focused Bishop, achieving tangible results in a relatively short span,” Archbishop Kaziimba said.
He added, “Your active participation in the House of Bishops and Provincial meetings especially the Provincial Assembly Standing Committee (PASC) where you represent Bishops, your faithful remittance of Provincial quota, and passionate preaching of the gospel are truly commendable”.
Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu lauded Bishop Zoreka for his exceptional leadership when serving as the Acting Dean of the Province of the Church of Uganda, expressing his anticipation of collaborating more closely in the near future when he assumes the role of Substantive Dean of the Province.
Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe from North Kigezi, who was the Preacher of the day, quoting from Psalms 118:1 and Isaiah 6:1, delivered a moving sermon on the importance of thanksgiving and salvation at individual and family level.
He characterized Bishop Zoreka as a saved leader, a seasoned Bible teacher, an astute leader, a family man, an effective communicator, a proficient time manager, a servant leader with a balanced blend of tenderness and firmness, an advisor, a systematic administrator, a well-organized figure, and one oriented towards development.
In his remarks, Bishop Dan Zoreka, called for unity among the people to drive community development and transformation forward.
“We must collaborate to leave an enduring legacy in the Church during our time. Let us continue to work as a united team, guided by the Provincial Theme for 2023… ‘United for service and growth,’ as mentioned in Colossians 3:23,” he emphasized.
The former Prime Minister of Uganda and Chairman of the Diocese of Kinkiizi Kampala Fellowship, in a message delivered by Rev Andrew Agaba, the Fellowship’s Chaplain, praised Bishop Zoreka for his initiatives in establishing projects aimed at promoting self-sustainability within the Diocese and community transformation. Kampala Chapter rsised over Ugx 150 million for the cause of the event. The money was delivered by the Kampala Chapter Treasurer Emmanuel Mbabazi.
Kinkiizi East Member of Parliament and the ICT Minister Hon Dr Chris Baryomunsi who attended the function expressed gratitude to Bishop Dan Zoreka for his advocacy in support of peaceful and self-sustainable families, promising continued government support for the development agenda of the Diocese of Kinkiizi. He contributed Ugx 20 million.
Eng. Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo, the Kanungu District Chairperson and Chairperson of the Cathedral Expansion committee said that all proceeds from the thanksgiving ceremony would be allocated towards the restoration and enhancement of St. Peter’s Cathedral, Nyakatare.
He commended businessman and Philanthropist Dr James Musinguzi Garuga for donating iron sheets worth Ugx 100 million to the cause and the generosity of Christians that have so far raised over Ugx 200 million.
Bishop Dan Zoreka was elected the second Bishop of the Diocese of Kinkiizi on 6th October 2010 and consecrated a Bishop on 10th October 2010 by Archbishop Emeritus, Dr Henry Luke Orombi at St Peter’s Cathedral, Nyakatare and succeeded the late Bishop John Wilson Ntegyereize who went to be with the Lord in 2021.
