NEWS- The opposition political parties are in the final stages of forming a coalition they have named the Forum for Uganda National Democratic Alliance (FUNDA), with an aim of forming a formidable force to wrestle political power from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in 2026.
The Coalition that was announced yesterday is composed of National Unity Platform (NUP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga, DP faction, UPC faction and Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).
According to a statement issued by the Coalition Spokesman, the opposition parties irrespective of their egos, have formed a line up that they believe is the best towards uprooting the 38 years entrenched dictatorship in Uganda.
According to a yet to be approved plan which this online has landed on in privy, the Coalition want to front Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the President of National Unity Platform as the 2026 Presidential flag bearer.
They have also lined up the former FDC Party President Dr Warren Kizza Besigye to deputise Kyagulanyi and represent Kigezi Sub Region and will have Vice Presidents who will include Hon Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba (NUP) for Buganda, Maj Gen Gregory Mugisha Muntu (ANT) for Ankole Hon Proscovia Salaam Musumba (FDC) for Busoga, Betty Aol Achan (FDC) for Acholi.
The Coalition Chairperson is Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago (FDC) from Buganda and the Vice Chairpersons include Hon Winnie Kizza (ANT) from the Rwenzururu, Lina Zedriga (NUP) from West Nile, John Baptist Nambeshe (NUP) for Bugisu, Sewava Serubiri (ANT) for Buganda.
The statement indicate that Olara Otunnu (UPC) from Acholi will become the Coalition Secretary General and will be Deputised by Hon Isha Otto Onzima (UPC) from Lango to be in charge of Policy and Research and Hon Alice Alaso Asianut (ANT) from Teso as Deputy Secretary General in charge of Administration.
The Treasurer General Michael will be Hon Lulume Bayiga (DP) from Buganda and will be deputised by Hon Francis Mwijukye (FDC) from Ankole to he in charge of budget and David Lewis Rubongoya (NUP) as Deputy Treasurer General in charge of Fundraising.
Hon Joel Senyonyi (NUP) from Buganda will take on the position of Secretary Information and Publicity and will be deputised by Harold Kaija (FDC) from Buganda, and Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda from Buganda will take the National Secretary for Mobilisation Ibrahim Semujju Nganda (FDC).
The Regional Secretaries for Mobilisation include Hon Betty Bakireke Nambooze (NUP) for Buganda, Hon Gilbert Olanya (FDC) for Acholi, Hon Roland Mugume Kaginda (FDC) from Kigezi for Western Uganda and Paul Mwiru (NUP) for Busoga Region.
Fred Nyanzi (NUP) from Buganda will take on the Security docket, and Nyakato Asinansi (FDC) from Bunyoro, becomes secretary for Women Affairs.
The Coalition will also have a Council for Elders who will include Hon Kasiano Wadri (ANT) from West Nile, Prof Moris Ogenga Latigo from Acholi, Wafula Oguttu (FDC) from Busoga, Wandela Ogalo (UPC) from Bukedi, Hon Livingstone Okello Okello (UPC) from Acholi, Ben Wacha (UPC) from Lango, Miria Matembe from Ankole, David Pulkol Karamoja Dan Mulika and Mulwanyamuli Ssemwogerere both from Buganda Region.
It is reported that the selection was made considering opposition numerical strength in Parliament, Gender, broad baseness and Regional Balance with a slogan, “UNITY IS POWER”.
