Over 200 Muslim youths from the greater Bushenyi Muslim districts successfully completed a three-day training workshop held at Bassajabalaba Main Mosque in Ishaka Municipality. The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of Islamic teachings, morals, and community responsibilities.
According to Sheikh Kisheka Iddi Abdulahuman, Secretary for Daawa (responsible for Islamic preaching and guidance) in Bushenyi Muslim District, the event encouraged participants to be ambassadors of their faith within the community. He emphasized the importance of upholding Islamic principles, including moral conduct, adherence to Islamic law, and the pursuit of knowledge about Allah. Sheikh Iddi noted that these values are essential for fostering a disciplined and positive society.
“The purpose of this workshop,” Sheikh Iddi explained, “is to guide the youth towards upright morals and knowledge. It is important that young people are informed and aware of legal and social responsibilities because they are often targeted by politicians and other influences that may encourage rebellion or negative behavior. When you guide the youth, you impact not only them but also their families and the wider community.”
Sheikh Iddi added that the workshop marks the beginning of a broader initiative to engage imams, parents, and other stakeholders in sensitizing young people on the importance of loving and practicing their Islamic faith.
Sheikh Asiram Karakyi, one of the facilitators, urged parents to prioritize the education and upbringing of their children. “Investing in children’s education and moral guidance is the most valuable investment a parent can make,” he said. Sheikh Asiram further emphasized the need to teach children Islamic principles with love, patience, and discipline to ensure they grow as responsible community members.
Participants expressed gratitude for the workshop. Abdulahim Bin Majidu, a youth Muslim leader from Mitoma District, thanked the office of the District Khazi and the Secretary for Daawa for organizing the event. He highlighted that the training equipped them with knowledge about Islamic morals, social responsibilities, and guidance on how to positively influence their peers and communities.
“Through this workshop, we have learned to respect our parents, follow the teachings of Islam, and contribute positively to our community,” he said. “We have been empowered to share these lessons with other youth, promoting respect, discipline, and love for our religion.”
Female participants also benefited from the training. Kyomugisha Fazira from Katerera in Rubirizi District, representing the girls’ youth, thanked the facilitators for teaching them how to avoid harmful behaviors. She highlighted topics such as mindset change, Islamic laws for protecting human life and property, prevention of early marriage, and guidance on praying to Allah for guidance in daily life.
The three-day workshop successfully combined religious education, community awareness, and life skills training, preparing the Muslim youth of greater Bushenyi to be positive agents of change in their communities.
