The Police in Rukungiri District have arrested a 27 year old man identified as Wycliffe Amumpaire a resident of Rwabuteneka cell of Kagasha Ward in Eastern Division in Rukungiri Municipality allegedly for vandalism and theft of electric wires.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the arrest saying that the incident took place in Rwabuteneka cell.
Maate explained thaf the case was reported by Rukungiri UEDCL Area Manager Alex Asiimwe who alleged that between July 2025 to date there have been acts of vandalism and theft of electric wires in some areas of Rukungiri Municipality especially in Omukempeho Trading Center and Bunura among others.
It is reported that the theft took place again on Friday again at Rwabuteneka Trading Center, and intelligence was put on ground plus the area local authorities to establish who could be behind it.
Maate explained that shortly after, information was received to the effect that someone has been seen vandalising the said electric wires and immediately the Police rushed and arrested him and took him to Rukungiri Central Police Station for further management.
The scene of crime was visited and documented and a search was conducted in the home of the suspect and suspected electric wires, were recovered as exhibits and investigations continue.
