The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 2 Infantry Division today conducted a 30-kilometre route march in Mbarara City, led by the Division Commander, Maj Gen Paul Muhanguzi.
The exercise, which began at the Division Headquarters Makenke, brought together officers and militants in a display of teamwork, discipline and physical endurance.
Before the march, Maj Gen Muhanguzi addressed the troops at the Division headquarters playground, emphasizing the importance of physical training in maintaining operational readiness.
“The purpose of the route march is to check troop and combat readiness. We regularly conduct such exercises as part of our daily military planning to ensure that all personnel remain fit and prepared,” Maj Gen Muhanguzi said.
He noted that the route march fosters teamwork, unity of purpose, and cohesion within military formations—values that are essential both in peace and wartime operations.
Maj Gen Muhanguzi noted that Military Route Marches are a long-standing tradition in the UPDF, aimed at enhancing physical fitness, enforcing discipline, and strengthening coordination among units.
The exercise also serves as a practical test of endurance, helping soldiers synchronize their efforts and build collective resilience in the field.
According to the UPDF 2nd Infantry Division Public Information Officer Maj Kiconco Tabaro, the route match has been successful.
