The North Kigezi Diocese successfully convened its 22nd two-day residential Synod at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano, bringing together representatives from various parishes, including parish priests and the Bishop’s nominees.
The Synod was chaired by the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, and focused on key governance and administrative matters within the Diocese.
Key deliberations included the selection of the Diocesan Council (Synod Standing Committee), Head of Laity, Head of the House of Clergy, members of the Nomination Committee, Provincial Assembly delegates, and Diocesan Board members.

During the sessions held from March 20–21, 2026:
Canon Dr. Johnson Byabashaija was elected as the Head of Laity
Ven. Capt. Jallon Atusinguza was elected as Head of the House of Clergy
In the same sitting, the Bishop announced his nominees:
Rev. Canon Elisha Waswa as Bishop’s Commissary
Canon Agaba Maguru as Diocesan Chancellor

Isaac Atukunda as Deputy Vice Chancellor
Additionally, three churches were granted parish status following earlier approval by the Diocesan Council:
St. James Nyamizi C.O.U
St. James Nyaburondo C.O.U
St. John’s Katungu C.O.U
The Synod marked an important milestone in strengthening leadership and governance within the Diocese.
