ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi regional Police spokesman

NEWS– The Police in Kisoro District have come up with fruitful investigations into the mysterious murder of a 64 year old woman after arresting five suspects who allegedly strangled to death a woman identified as Joy Nyiramuhisha a retired primary teacher and resident of Kamonyi Ward in Northen Division Kisoro Municipality.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists that the suspects include a butcher, boda boda rider, resident in Kisoro and two women of Rwandan origin.

Maate identified the suspects as 20 year old Peter Ndagijimana a resident of Karumina Cell in Central Division, Kisoro municipality, Isaac Nkurikiyimana aged 27 year old butcher, 22 year old Angela Utuze  a Rwandan bar attendant and resident of Kekubo Karenina Ward in Northen Division, Angela Muhawemana aged 20 years, a Rwandan barmaid and resident of Gishera Nyagashinge ward Northern division and William Nzamoye 28, a boda boda rider.

The deceased was been murdered by unknown assailants in the night of 26th June 2024 from her residence for unknown motive and her body was locked in one of the rooms in the boys quarters.

Fortunately, the suspects  confessed to having done so, and that their motive was to steal Ugx 16 million which the victim had raised through sale of land and some exhibits of a Tv, remote and a decoder that were stolen from her were recovered from them.

Maate told journalists that upon completion of inquiries, they will be brought before courts of law to answer charges accordingly and a case of murder by strangulation was registered at Kisoro Central Police Station under reference CRB 473/2024 to help in investigations.
