Kainerugaba being received by the South Sudan President Salva Kiir in Juba

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has held high-level discussions with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir at State House in Juba focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and regional stability.

Gen Kainerugaba arrived in Juba earlier yesterday in the morning and was received by his South Sudanese counterpart at the Juba International Airport and following brief talks, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba proceeded to State House for the presidential meeting.

After meeting President Kiir, the CDF visited the tactical headquarters of Operation Mlinzi Wa Kimya, a Swahili phrase meaning “Silent Guardian,” where he interacted with Ugandan troops and commanders overseeing the mission.

He was later joined by South Sudan’s Vice President, with whom he held further discussions on security cooperation and these engagements underscore the deepening military and security partnership between Kampala and Juba.

Uganda has played a key role in supporting South Sudan’s stability, including the UPDF’s deployment at the request of the South Sudanese government following clashes between rebel forces and government troops.

Meanwhile a Ugandan man who has been claiming to be a General in the Army, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces has been arrested for conning foreign investors of billions.

The arrest of a man identified as General Isa has been confirmed by Col Chris Magezi, the military aide to Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Col Magezi said that the man had been using the identity of General Isa to fleece unsuspecting foreign investors of their money and is now expected to face trial in the courts of law.

There have been several cases of investors being conned by well connected security and political officials in Uganda and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni even set up a unit to protect investors from fraudulent activities.

Months ago, Ugandan fraudsters claiming to be Museveni’s close relatives reportedly conned foreign gold investors, while a top lawyer was also on the spot for conning gold investors of their money.
