The school Head teacher Sister Gladys Kachope told our reporter that putting God first, hardwork incorporated with discipline, candidates and teachers’ dedication helped last year’s candidates to excel highly in 2023 examinations than ever before.

Kachope also attributed this stellar performance to the Parents who have endeavored to support their learners, Vibrant School committees as well as the community that have been there to advise on several instances in the daily running of the school activities.

Despite the candidates being victims of the COVID-19 disturbance during their academic journey, Kachope narrated to this reporter that together with her staff they were able to cope up with the lost time and instilled the necessary classroom material that was key for their excellence.

“Am very excited and humbled than ever before. This has been one of the best years in my stay at Immaculate Heart Girls School, the girls have made us as teachers, the parents and the entire community proud with such a commendable performance” said Kachope.

The candidates sat from 3,808 examination centers. Of these candidates, 118,633 (32.5%) were Universal Secondary Education (USE) beneficiaries. The number of male candidates registered was 180,471 (49.5%) and that of females was 183,998 (50.5%).According to the executive director, performance in the 2023 examination is significantly better than that of 2022.

The failure rate has also dropped by 0.5 percent. This means that 329,939 (95.9%) of the learners who presented themselves for the 2023 examination can progress to the post-UCE level. 2023 UCE results show that female candidates performed better than males inthe English Language.

In the other subjects, males perform better, with the differences being very significant in History, Geography, Science subjects and Commerce. In Chemistry, however, the male candidates show better performance in the higher grades but, overall, a slightly higher percentage of females obtained at least a Pass.

This trend in the disparity in the performance of male and female candidates has been observed over the years. While releasing 2023 UCE results, Odongo also noted that cases of examination malpractice have continued to reduce.

“Most of the ones reported in this examination were external assistance given in the examination rooms and affecting mostly Physics and Chemistry practical examination, and Mathematics” he said.

He said that affected schools whose results were withheld will be notified through their portals. They will also be notified of the dates of the hearings.
