Mwongyera ready to lay the proposed budget tor the year 2026/27

Kanungu District Local Government Council has passed a resolution to lay a Ugx 62.9 billion for the year 2026/2027 under the theme, “Promotion of Commercial Agriculture, Industrial development, Market Access, Digital transformation for inclusive growth, employment and wealth creation”.

According to the budget proposal laid before the District Council by the Vice Chairperson Henry Mwongyera who represented the Chairman Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo, the budget for next financial year priorities investment accelerator actions of the tenfold growth strategy anchoredon growth of national goal of full monetisation of the economy.

The Chairperson said that the key outcome of the budget includes accelerated and resilient economic growth focused on reduced human vulnerability and improved quality of life.

The budget will be focused on deepening the implementation of growth sectors Agro-industrialiasation, Tourism development, mineral based Industrial development, science technology and innovation including IcT and create artisan enablers.

According to the District Planning Department, the budget implementation strategy will be achieved through sustainable increased agricultural production coupled with value addition and enhanced human capital development.

The focus will also lays strategy on building and maintaining road infrastructure and also support the private sector driven growth that is capable of creating employment opportunities and ensure good governance and security.

The district is also laying strategies to promote the Parish Development Model with a goal to increase household incomes and improve quality of life with specific focus on the total transformation of the subsistence household into money economy to eradicate poverty by ensuring that the funds are put to right use.

The Chairman laid out the anticipated indicative revenue for the year 2026/2027 to be realised from local revenue which will bring in Ugx 1.63 billion accounting for 2.5%, conditional government transfers of Ugx 50.2 billion accounting for 79%, government  discretionary transfers of Ugx 7.1 billion which 11.3% and other government transfers amounting to Ugx 3.9 billion which is 6.3%.

According to the budget estimates, the District Education department will take the lion’s share with over Ugx 27.5 billion equivalent to 43.8% followed by the health department with over Ugx 13.7 billion equivalent to 21.8%.

Other allocations included Administration department with Ugx 10.3 billion, Production and Marketing department with Ugx 4.4 billion, Roads and Technical Services with Ugx 1.8 billion, Natural Resources Management will take Ugx 1.8 billion, Statutory Bodies and Commissions has Ugx 1.2 billion, and Community based services with has Ugx 495.2 millions whie Water and Sanitation has Ugx 387 millions, 

Other funds will go to Planning with Ugx 315.3 million, Finance with Ugx 364.0 millions, Trade Industry and Commerce will take Ugx 208.3 millions and lastly Internal Audit has Ugx 143.6 millions.

The meeting was presided over by Deputy Speaker who is also the Woman Councilor representing workers Ms Kyasiimire Evelyne, who explained that the laid budget will be reviewed by the Councillors and be approved in the next council meeting whose date will be communicated.
